Hello All!
It was raining this morning, just a little bit. But my, did the sun come out later in the day! Cest jolie! Class today was quite interesting. It just makes me wonder about this enterprise of science that we are participating in. Thesis, evidence, conclusions, implications...I think that these should be priorities in any investigation and presentation of results. I'm just worried that focusing on opinion and passion (while they will undoubtedly inform one's work) may not bring us any further in finding answers to our questions. Oh well!
Made dinner at the hotel tonight, and while it didn't end as I expected, everything turned out quite well. I went out with the peeps for a drink...un karaffe de vin blanc...and got into a fantastic discussion about the purposes and responsibility of the UN. Can they fight terrorism? Can they ensure international security? Is there anything that can be legitimately done to save lives and actively remove terrorism as a tactic for the weak, as my roomie Lexi said. Though we all have differing opinions I think it is important to realize that the answers are multifaceted and COMPLEX! The UN may be inefficient, but can you imagine the world without it and their work? I cannot.
I went out with Alaina tonight to meet Vincent, a kind gentleman who asked her out for a drink. We went to the bar on le lac (of course), and just talked for some time. It was quite sweet being that he didn't speak much English and we didn't speak French, but it was nice just to meet a new person. People can be so kind in this world! Human connection and interaction, what a phenomenon!
Tomorrow is the WTO visit and the tour on international Geneva...then le discotheque! I was challenged by Monsieur Alex to a dance off. I mean, that's like a fish saying that it can fly better than a bird...totally ridiculous, I know! Indeed we shall see...
...incredibly content :-)
